New York took care of that quickly, announcing Wednesday that he’s signed through the 2017 season.
The 48-year-old Girardi has led the team to the playoffs in four of his six seasons, winning the World Series in 2009. Under Girardi, the Yankees have gone a majors-best 564-408 (.580) since 2008.
Allmendinger to run finale for Penske
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) — AJ Allmendinger will race in the IndyCar season finale for Penske Racing.
Allmendinger will drive the No. 2 Chevrolet with sponsorship from Izod in the Oct. 19 race at Fontana, Calif.
It was the site of Allmendinger’s comeback last year. Team owner Roger Penske had Allmendinger attend the IndyCar season finale as his guest during his NASCAR suspension for failing a random drug test.
Allmendinger was re-instated by NASCAR shortly after, and Penske has entered him in five other IndyCar races this season, including the Indianapolis 500.
Allmendinger led 23 laps at Indianapolis and was out front when he had to make an unplanned pit stop because his seat belt came undone. He still finished seventh.
Sites chosen for NCAA women’s hoops tourney
Notre Dame, Stanford, Louisville and Nebraska will host the NCAA tournament women’s basketball regionals this season.
The women’s basketball committee decided over the summer to allow schools to host the regionals for the first time in nearly a decade, with the thought it could increase attendance.
All four schools have had incredible success at home, with Stanford boasting a 92-2 mark at Maples Pavilion since the start of the 2007-08 season. Notre Dame is 85-11 at home during that same span. Louisville and Nebraska each have won 81 percent of their home games over the past six years.
