Cass’ Maupin set toplay hoops at Hanover
WALTON — Lewis Cass senior point guard Maci Maupin will continue her basketball career at the next level.
Maupin committed to play at Hanover College last Friday. Maupin will play for Hanover coach Molly Jones, who just completed her 15th year at the Division III school located in Hanover near the banks of the Ohio River.
“I’m really excited about it. I really like their coaches and they have a successful program,” Maupin said. “Their campus is really nice. It just felt like that was where I was supposed to go.”
Maupin, a 5-5 point guard, averaged 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.8 steals and 2.8 assists to lead the Kings this season. She earned All-Mid-Indiana Conference honors.
The Kings went 8-12 this year under first-year coach Meranda Burnett. It was their best season since 2008.
“It was a great senior year. I couldn’t have asked for a better one,” Maupin said. “Everyone helped make it be special. I was glad to end my career with the people I did and the coaches I had.”
Hanover posted a 17-10 overall record and finished second in the Heartland Conference with a 14-4 mark. The Panthers reeled off 10 straight wins during the season and later advanced to the championship game of the league tournament for the sixth consecutive season.
Maupin plans to study psychology at Hanover.
