Caston’s season ends with loss to South Newton

Winamac girls track sets two school records at regional.

Caston’s softball team managed just three hits in a 19-0 loss to South Newton on Wednesday in a semifinal game of the Class A North White Sectional.

The Rebels will play No. 1 North Miami for the title at 5:30 p.m. tonight.

Caston, which was without ace pitcher Tori Rentschler due to a back injury, ended with a 17-9 record.

Winamac scored 10 points to finish 20th at the regional on Tuesday. Lake Central won with 54 points.

The Warriors had two school record performances on the night. Freshman Claire Collins ran an 11:57.75 in the 3200 run to place fifth. The 4x800 relay team of Dagny Zupin, Jaydyn Scott, Sara Bailey and Collins ran a 10:21.71 to place eighth.

Melissa Bailey was sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.26) and 14th in the 300 hurdles (52.09). Stephanie Shorter was seventh in the high jump (5-1). Dagny Zupin added a 10th place finish in the 1600 (5:52.58).

Caston’s game against North White was rained out and postponed to a 5:30 p.m. start today in Remington.

Pioneer will face West Central at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by North Miami vs. South Newton.

Tri-County will face the game one winner at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the game two vs. game three winner at 1 p.m. The final is set for 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Kokomo Regional


Logansport’s match against No. 1 Carmel was postponed to a 5 p.m. start today.

The Berries take a 15-5 record into the match and No. 1 singles player Whitney Jennings is 20-0.
