Megan Carden went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead Lewis Cass’ softball team to a 9-0 win over Class 2A No. 6 Carroll on Friday in Walton.
Charlie Nolen and Rachel Lawson combined for a three-hit shutout for the Kings (2-0). Nolen allowed three hits in five innings, striking out four. Lawson fanned four in two hitless innings to close out the game.
Kassi Zeck went 2-for-3 with an RBI and stolen base for the Kings, who pounded out 11 hits in the contest.
Brittany Cunningham, Emilee McCoy and Alexa Humerickhouse turned a 5-4-3 double play for Cass.
“I was very impressed with our defense,” Cass coach Jennifer Scott said. “We had great pitching performances, and our bats came alive.”
Cass hosts Mississinewa today.
Winamac 11, LaCrosse 5
Bethany Brogdon struck out 10 in leading Winamac (2-0) to the win over LaCrosse. Brogdon pitched the full seven innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks to go along with her 10 strikeouts.
“It was really nice to see [Brogdon] have a good outing,” Winamac coach Jenny Belcher said. “Ten strikeouts in seven innings is pretty good. Her changeup was working pretty good.”
Heidi Hendryx led the Warriors with three singles and two RBIs. Brogdon helped herself at the plate with two singles and three RBIs, and Chantel Heinsen added two singles and an RBI.
