Caston Shootout postponed to today

The Caston boys basketball shootout was snowed out on Thursday. The event has been postponed to start today.

Today’s schedule includes Churubusco vs. Lowell at 11 a.m., Northfield vs. Rensselaer at 1 p.m. and Kankakee Valley vs. Oregon-Davis at 3 p.m. The host Comets (2-4) face Central Noble (0-6) at 5 p.m.

Semifinals, consolations and placement games will be held on Saturday as originally scheduled, highlighted by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

Logansport (6-1) has a makeup game against Lafayette Jeff (2-5) tonight in the Berry Bowl. The Berries travel to Twin Lakes (3-3) Saturday night.

The Class 4A No. 6-ranked Logansport girls team is coming off its first loss of the season, a 52-51 loss to Gary West on a 3-point buzzer beater at the Region Roundball Rumble Wednesday night. The Berries (11-1) travel to Class A No. 7 Lafayette Central Catholic (6-2) on Saturday for a matinee.

The following is this weekend’s hoops schedule.



5 p.m. — Caston vs. Central Noble at Caston Shootout

6:30 p.m. — Lafayette Jeff at Logansport

7:30 p.m. — Knox at Winamac at Winter Classic


6 p.m. — Logansport at Twin Lakes

7 p.m. — Winamac at West Central Winter Classic

TBA — Caston Shootout



7:30 p.m. — Pioneer at Caston


1 p.m. — Logansport at Lafayette Central Catholic

Vernon resigns from Logan volley post

Jon Vernon has resigned as the head coach of the Logansport volleyball team.

“We had two great years of 26-7 and 19-14, two Cass County Tourney championships and a sectional runner-up in 2012,” Vernon said. “I want to thank those players that worked hard in practices and matches. I will continue to run the Logansport Volleyball Club and continue to work to make our local youth better at the game of volleyball.”

Logansport athletic director Greg Fisher said: “Jon has worked very hard at the position and has dedicated himself a lot of hours and time, effort and energy and we really appreciate Jon’s time and effort he has put into the volleyball program.”
