Caston girls survive Pioneer to advance

Carroll upset by Frontier; Delphi advances at Winamac Sectional.

Caston, which led 20-14 at halftime, hit 17 of 26 free throws for the game including 12 of 16 in the fourth quarter.

Caston defeated Tri-County 50-34 on Jan. 30. The Comets jumped out to a 22-1 lead after one quarter in that game.

“They outplayed us a good portion that first time after we did get off to a good start,” Davis said. “We need to clean up our play and take better care of the basketball and have better shot selection. Coach Benner has been around a long time and they’ll be ready for us.”

Rossville Sectional

Carroll was upset by Frontier 45-43 at the Class A Rossville Sectional.

Libby Eller had 13 points and Macy Willoughby scored 11 to lead the Cougars, who finish 12-6. Bailey Worl added eight points.

Carroll led 19-15 at halftime and 29-25 after three before being outscored 20-14 in the fourth.

Frontier (6-13) faces Faith Christian on Friday.

Winamac Sectional

Myka Roth scored 19 points to lead four Oracles in double figures in a 62-46 win over Rensselaer at the Class 2A Winamac Sectional.

The Oracles (11-8) face Winamac (12-6) at 8 p.m. Friday following North Newton (3-15) vs. North Judson (7-11).

Tatum Minier had 14 points, Bailey Gasser scored 12 and Danielle Swayze added 11 for Delphi, which led 34-27 at halftime and 46-39 after three.

Megan Dobson led the Bombers (7-14) with 14 points.
