PREP ROUNDUP: Logansport wins home opener

Carroll tops LCC in overtime to claim HHC title

From Staff Reports

Steady rain made conditions less than ideal for the Logansport boys soccer team’s home opener against Harrison Thursday evening.

But the Berries were able to overcame the wet conditions and the Raiders for a 4-2 win to improve to 2-2-2 on the season.

“We finally had some finishing,” Logan coach Mike Turner said.

Juan Carlos Ortega got Logan on the board after 13 minutes of play when his shot found its way past the Harrison goalie. The Raiders were able to tie the game at 1-1 and even go ahead 2-1 within the next 10 minutes. After regaining their composure the Berries were able to retake the lead before halftime at 3-2.

The rain stopped as the second half began and both squads battled until Logan put one more past the Harrison goalie to make the final 4-2.

Logansport goalie Jorge Botello made eight saves including two key saves in the last 10 minutes to secure the win.

Ortega was credited with two goals and an assist. Edgar Islas had a goal and an assist, and Justin Schlinglof scored a goal on an assist by Adam Coray.

Logan’s JV team was defeated 3-1 to fall to 2-3-1 on the season.

The Berries return to action on Tuesday when they host Culver Military Academy.
