PREP ROUNDUP: Carroll beats HHC rival in boys soccer
Delphi volleyball picks up 1st win

The Carroll boys soccer team won at Tri-Central 4-1 Thursday evening to record its first-ever win over the Trojans
The Cougars’ Chase Meade broke a scoreless tie with a goal 20 minutes into the Hoosier Heartland Conference contest.
After several near goals by both teams, Carroll’s Michael Myer blasted one past the Tri-Central goalie with 25 minutes left in the contest to make it 2-0. Cody Meade then scored his first two goals of the season for insurance as the Cougars held on for the win to stay unbeaten at 3-0.
Carroll goalie Cody Abdon recorded six saves in the contest. Chase Meade had two assists and Kiel Lester added one.
Carroll next hosts Rossville on Tuesday.
VOLLEYBALL
Delphi 3, Tri-Central 1
The Lady Oracles (1-4) picked up their first win of the season with a 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 win.
Brittany Nelson had 15 kills and six blocks and Brittney Atwood contributed eight kills, four blocks and five digs.
Jordyn Bieghler dished out 29 assists. Abby Cunningham had eight digs and Dani Burge pounded out six aces.
“We played very well and hustled and moved all over the court,” Delphi coach Suzanne Hughes said. “On Tuesday [against Benton Central] we were very lethargic and didn’t move a lot. Tonight we played our game. We played a very good passing game and that makes a huge difference.”
The Oracles travel to Frontier on Tuesday.
Oak Hill 3, Lewis Cass 2
The Lady Kings were defeated on the road, 12-25, 13-25, 26-24, 27-25, 7-15.
Abby Ropes had 14 kills and four blocks. Sarah Robertson recorded 30 digs.
Sydney DeHaven set up 17 assists and added four aces. Kristi Berlet had eight assists and four aces.
Taylor Miller had six kills and Rachel Aldridge collected four kills and three blocks. Brooke Hill added 19 service points and 13 digs.
Cass travels to Rochester on Tuesday.
BOYS TENNIS
Western 3, Cass 2
The Panthers took the singles points and Cass took the doubles matches in a long Mid-Indiana Conference showdown. Brad DiCarlo’s 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Cass’ Doug Engle gave the team match to Western, but only after 2 1/2 hours of back-and-forth action.
Also for the Panthers, Aaron Anderson beat Cameron Cummings 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Jacob Welker beat Sean Ritz 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
Cass took the doubles points. At No. 1, Drew Fowler and Jaren Downhour won 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 over Sam Blatt and Drew Mitchell. At 2 doubles, Josh Hansen and Dillon Mund beat Ben Irwin and Bryson Platt 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
“All three of our three-set matches were very competitive and fun to watch,” Cass coach Stu Engle said. “I have no complaints. All the guys laid it on the line and we’ve shown a lot of improvements since our first match last week.”
GIRLS GOLF
Twin Lakes 174, Northwestern 180, Logan 186
Twin Lakes won the three-way meet hosted by Logansport at Dykeman Park Golf Course.
Medalist honors for the match went to Alyssa McClure of Northwestern with a low round of 37.
For Logansport, Heidi Bender was low with a 42 with Natalie Scott two shots back at 44. Next for Logan was freshman Amy Worthington with a 48. Morgan Smith shot a 51 and Caitlin VanCuren rounded out the scoring with a 60. Personal-best rounds were achieved by both Worthington and Smith.
Logansport will play host to Lafayette Jeff next Thursday.
West Lafayette 184, Frankfort 193, Carroll 197
Carroll’s Megan Garrison was medalist with a 37. She was followed by Taylor Sproul (48), Malena Zook (49) and Katie Unger (63).
BOYS TENNIS
Benton Central 5, Delphi 0
The Oracles (0-5) were blanked at Benton Central (4-1).
The Bison’s’ Kybren Foster defeated Andrew Flora 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles it was Mitchell Borgman stopping Delphi’s Ethan Ross 6-2, 6-0. BC No. 3 singles player Rhett Portman defeated Nick Zink 6-2,6-0.
Doubles action continued to go Benton Central’s way with the tandem of Colman Dalton and Zach Geswein beating James Wethington and Jesus Olivas in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Bobby Porham and Clark Ford beat Delphi’s Trey White and Caleb Beighler by identical straight set scores of 6-0, 6-0.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Twin Lakes 23, Lewis Cass 34
Lewis Cass opened its season with a loss at Twin Lakes.
Leading the way for Cass was Ashley Baber finishing second with a 22:43. Claiming spots fifth and sixth were Shanaya Woodmansee and Megan Sullivan with times of 23:51 and 24:45 respectively. Coming in 10th overall for Cass was Hannah Johnson at 25:25 and Raelee Puckett crossed the line in 12th at 25:55.
The 14th spot went to Cass junior Alex Sullivan at 27:08. She was followed by Jessica Tober in 15th at 27:39 and Brooke Robertson in 16th at 28:09. Ellie Cain crossed in 18th at 28:21 with teammate Kelsey Ullom at 19th with a time of 29:22. Rounding out the runners for Cass was Jesslyn Hatton in 21st with a time of 33:31.
The overall winner of the meet went to Megan Raderstorf of Twin Lakes who crossed the line at 22:14.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
North White 33, Lewis Cass 41, Twin Lakes 51
Leading the Kings was Nate Wilson with a third-place finish in 19:37.
In fifth with a time of 21:00 was Tyler Yeakley. Following behind in sixth was Cass sophomore Madison Carney at 22:02. Kealyn Linback crossed in 13th with a time of 24:42 and teammate Zach Garland was right behind him in 14th with a 24:58 time.
The overall winner of the meet went to Twin Lakes’ J.D. Gutterman with a time of 18.50.
FOOTBALL
Pioneer 22, Maconaquah 7 (9th)
Braxton Mehrley led the Pioneer frosh (1-0) with 20 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown. Justin Hanna had five carries for 65 yards and a two-point conversion.
Damon Coe hauled in two catches for 69 yards, including a 52-yard TD reception from Charlie Cool. Coe also blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. Cool added a two-point conversion pass to Austin Runyon.
Hanna added a fumble recovery and Mike Black had an interception. Zach Smith had team-high six tackles.
Pioneer hosts Logansport on Tuesday.
