Warriors finish runner-up at track sectional

Kokomo, Lafayette Jeff track sectionals rained out.

The Winamac boys track team finished in second-place with 99 points at the 12-team Rensselaer Sectional Thursday. Kankakee Valley won with 156 points.

Senior Cory Hurd won the 400 in 52.57, placed third in the 100 and was part of Winamac’s 400 relay team that advanced with a third-place finish.

David Schambers placed second in pole vault and Anthony Chapman finished third in the event. Chapman also placed third in the 800.

Ory Maxwell was third in both the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Joey Tetzloff finished fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Andrew Stepp placed third in the shot put and T.J. Redlin was fourth in the 400. Redlin was also part of the third-place 400 relay team along with Hurd, Chance Blankenship and Ryan Grandstaff.

Plymouth Sectional

Caston placed 10th out of 10 teams with five points. The host Pilgrims won the event with 183 points.

No Comets advanced to the regionals. Caston’s highest finisher was Austin Yeargean who placed sixth in the 100.

Kokomo Sectional

The Kokomo Sectional was rained out and has been rescheduled for tonight.

Lafayette Jeff Sectional

The Lafayette Jeff Sectional was rained out and has been rescheduled for tonight.

Baseball

Cass 7, Wabash 6

Lewis Cass held off possible sectional opponent Wabash at Wabash’s rain-soaked field.

Ryne Stover earned the win on the mound to move to 4-5 on the season and Damon Foreman picked up the save.

Drew Fowler led the Kings (10-8) at the plate with three base hits. Keith Lee had two hits including a double.

“We had quality hitting when we needed it,” Cass coach Greg Marschand said. “We hit the ball hard all game but pounded it right at ‘em.

“I’m happy with how we bounced back after a tough loss to Northwestern. It shows the character of what this team is made of.”

Wabash fell to 8-13 with the loss.

The Kings travel to Tipton tonight for a 5 p.m. contest.

Boys Golf

Pioneer 178, Frontier 208

Kyle Gerlach won medalist honors with a 43 at Pond View Golf Course.

Rounding out the scores for the Panthers (12-1) were John Farrer with a 44, Zach Ide with a 44 and Jake Franklin with a 47.

Pioneer won the JV match 206-236. For the Panthers, Ty Shrantz carded a 46, Garrett Howard 48, Brent Gady 56 and Anthony Knebel 56.

The Panthers host Culver Military Academy and Maconaquah on Tuesday.
