The Logansport girls track team placed fifth at the Madison-Grant Sectional Tuesday with 62 points, while Cass finished seventh with 34 and Pioneer was 11th with 23.20. Western won with 145.20 points.
Logansport sophomore Glorisel Cruz won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.89 to advance to next week’s Bremen Regional. Logan sophomore Baleigh Deitrich was the sectional champion in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.64.
Pioneer junior Cady Caudle won the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:31.30.
Also advancing for Logan was Deitrich with a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Cass’ Brittiani Gillem advanced with a third-place finish in the 1600.
The Lady Kings had two throwers advance to the regionals with Kassie Sprinkle placing fourth in the shot put and Rhi Sanders finishing fourth in the discus.
Both Logan and Pioneer had a 3200 relay team advance. Logan’s team of Cruz, Ashlynn Morill, Marylin Contreras and Shannon Jennings finished third and Pioneer’s team of Brittany Cole, Bailey Farrer, Jazzmin Humphrey and Caudle placed fourth.
Logan’s 1600 relay team of Princessa Rennewanz, Taylor Howell, Michelle Cline and Alex Wamsley placed fourth to advance.
Logan’s Brittany Bullard had already advanced with a runner-up finish in the pole vault Monday.
Kankakee Valley Sectional
Winamac placed third with 66 points while the host Lady Kougars won with 148.5 points.
Winamac junior Tabby Halleck won the 100-meter dash in 12.90 seconds and was runner-up with the 200. Junior Ali Parks was the champion in the shot put with a throw of 35’10.25”.
Also advancing to the Chesterton Regional for the Lady Warriors were Rachael Franko with a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles, Linsey Foerg with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault and Jordan Brandt with a fourth-place finish in the long jump.
Winamac’s 400 relay team of Franko, Kathryn Sommers, Brandt and Halleck advanced with a runner-up finish.
Rochester Sectional
Caston placed 10th with eight points while Plymouth won with 163.50 points.
Caston sophomore Kayley Woods scored all of the Comets points on the night with a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run. She ran a time of 2:30.82 and advanced to the Bremen Regional.
Lafayette Jeff Sectional
Carroll placed seventh with 26 points and Delphi was 10th with 16 points as West Lafayette won with 166 points.
Advancing to the West Lafayette Regional for the Lady Cougars were Jaime McCarter with a third-place finish in both the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, and Ashley Bordner who placed fourth in the 1600. Delphi’s Olivia George tied for the highest mark in the high jump at 5’2” and placed third on misses to advance.
Baseball
Logansport 11, Marion 1
Sophomore Nate Champion pitched a one-hitter and the Berries (13-11, 6-5 in North Central Conference) wrapped out 16 hits at the plate. The lone Giants (5-18, 2-9) run was unearned.
“I was real pleased with his performance,” Logan coach Jim Turner said of Champion. “He stepped up and made the pitches when he had to. He’s gotten better each outing and gaining experience. It’s exciting to know he’ll be back for two more years.”
Ike Homburg had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs. Luke Zinsmaster hit a home run and had three RBIs.
Sam Starbuck, Grant McCloskey, Matt McKay, Cam Foster and Jon Tierney all had two hits in the contest for Logan, who hosts Marion tonight.
Softball
Logansport 9, Marion 0
Molly Long pitched her second no-hitter of the season as the Lady Berries (17-7, 5-2) completed their NCC slate.
Long fanned 11 and Marion’s first hitter of the game was the lone Lady Giant to reach base — on an error.
For the Berries at the plate, Josie Frye had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Kayla Swartzell had two hits and Lauren Vitello tripled.
Logansport travels to Marion tonight.
