Trio of Logan track athletes earn NCC honors

Logansport track and field athletes Brittany Bullard, Baleigh Deitrich and Brice Roads have been named this week’s North Central Conference Student-Athletes of the Week.

Bullard, a senior, won the NCC title in the pole vault at the conference meet held in Marion this past weekend. Deitrich, a sophomore, was the conference champion in the 100 hurdles. Roads, a senior, was the NCC champ in the 800.

Walton’s Little Mountain Golf Course winners

Shannon Jones, Ted Beckley, Gene Dunkel and Earl Gilland were the Monday a.m. senior scramble winners at Walton’s Little Mountain Golf Course on April 28.

Rob Dunkel and Art Morgan were the Saturday a.m. men's scramble winners on May 3.

Outrun the Sun® event set for June 7

Shedding light on a disease that strikes more than 108,000 Americans each year, melanoma survivors and supporters will join together to jog, walk and run Saturday, June 7.

The 2008 Outrun the Sun® Race Against Melanoma kicks off at 7 p.m. on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Proceeds benefit melanoma education programs and patient support in Indiana and research support nationwide.

The fourth annual Outrun the Sun event will include a five-mile competitive run, 5K non-competitive run/walk and one-mile family walk. Post-race activities include live music, food, kids' race, and recognition of melanoma survivors with group photo.

On-site registration and packet pick-up runs from 4-6:30 p.m. at the IUPUI Natatorium. Online pre-registration for individuals and teams is available at www.outrunthesun.org. Sponsors include Dermatology, Inc., lead sponsor, NIA 24, national sunscreen sponsor, Wagner & Associates, melanoma survivor sponsor, and media partners: Bright House Networks, 93.1 FM WIBC, Indiana Lawyer, and Indianapolis Monthly.
