Logansport’s Brad Konkle, a student at Rose-Hulman Institute in Terre Haute, is part of the team of students piloting The Sun Phantom, a solar-powered car competing in the nationwide SunRayce. The car is running sixth in the event so far.

In boys action, IU-bound Luke Recker scored 38 points and Logansport’s Caleb Springer, the first LHS All-Star since Jeff Williams in 1977, scored 2 points as the boys erupted for a win over their Bluegrass rivals.

Cass County Board of Zoning Appeals members have voted 3-2 to approve a petition that will allow a house as an accessory residence to a mobile home.

State Policeman Bob Sabatini of Logansport will be honored in Bloomington as the Indiana Officer of the Year.

Herman Schmitt, a Logansport businessman who operated The Golden Rule, has passed away in Indianapolis. He was 59. Active in community affairs, he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Logansport National Bank Board as well as the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, the former Beezie Cole, and three daughters.

A study by Johns Hopkins University reports findings that sex education does not promote promiscuity.

At Camp Buffalo in White County, Boy Scouts are having a sing-along.

Statistics on veterans indicate there are many living in Logansport area counties. Cass leads in the number of veteran residents with 5,470 while Miami has 4,440. Carroll has 2,240, Fulton 1,810, Pulaski 1,800 and  White 2,750.

Clay Township development north of the Logansport city limits is an example of “rurbanization” according to a Pharos-Tribune editorial, which goes on to say that the blurring of city limit lines poses a “threat and a challenge” to the city. The question posed by development outside city limits is not “how are you going to keep them down on the farm,” but “how are you going to keep them in the city limits.”

Teamsters rising star Jimmy Hoffa has been indicted twice.

A site has been chosen across the street from the Pulaski County Courthouse. It will cost $72,000 and include a residence for the sheriff.

Among the players for the Kain’s Dodgers are Bill Timberman, Lenny Ricci, Wes Parmeter and Paul Hipsher. The team is coached by Larry Baker.

Barbara Billman is the new personnel director at Logansport State Hospital.
