LOGANSPORT — Logansport Memorial Hospital has hired two new doctors to fill vacancies in the Women’s Center and general surgery department.

Dr. Timothy Hall, will be starting in February as a new obstetrician and gynecologist, to work in the Woman’s Center, and Dr. Michael Lalla will start in March as a general surgeon. Hospital CEO Dave Ameen said he is also be looking for another doctor for the Woman’s Center, in addition to Dr. Jeffrey VanCuren, who Ameen said he expects to return to work after recovering from his injuries.

Ameen said he had been searching for a new doctor for the Women’s Center since a physician left in July. Then, when VanCuren was critically injured in August, the search took on greater urgency.

“It got to be pretty intense when Dr. VanCuren was injured,” Ameen said.

Currently, the Woman’s Center is staffed by only one doctor, Ameen said.

Ameen said he would be seeking another candidate, so that the center would have four total doctors — including VanCuren.

Hall has been practicing for 16 years, and is coming to the hospital from North Carolina, where he worked for Stanly Women’s Services, Ameen said. He completed medical school and his residency at Texas Tech University locations.

Lalla, originally from Trinidad, is coming to Logansport from Valdosta, Ga. Lalla has completed fellowships at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis and at New York Hospital in Queens, N.Y.

“We’re really pleased to get someone with his credentials,” Ameen said.

Ameen said Lalla’s experience with laparoscopy — a minimally invasive surgical procedure — set him apart from the field of candidates.

Lalla was selected by the general surgeons at the hospital, Ameen said.

Ameen said both doctors would be living in the area, so that they would be able to be on call.

“They need to be close so that they’re going to take care of the patients,” Ameen said.

Ameen added that the hospital was still looking for a pediatrician to bring its staff of pediatricians up to four.
