LOGANSPORT — A Logansport High School teacher was arrested Thursday on a charge of child seduction.

Kayla Skaggs, 24, Logansport, is a special needs teacher at the high school, according to the high school's website.

On Thursday, the Logansport Police Department in conjunction with the administration of the Logansport High School, conducted an investigation regarding allegations of inappropriate behavior between a female teacher and a 17-year-old male student.

Through the investigation, probable cause was established and Skaggs was arrested on a Class D felony charge of child seduction.

Logansport Community Schools Superintendent Michele Starkey said Thursday evening that Skaggs no longer works for the corporation.

"We fully will cooperate with the local authorities on this," Starkey said.

Skaggs was in her first year teaching at the corporation, Starkey said. School administrators first received a report regarding Skaggs late Thursday morning, she added, and school officials investigated and reported the situation to the police.

Starkey was not present at Skaggs' arrest but believes it was made at the Logansport police station, she said.

Skaggs was booked into the Cass County Jail at 2:19 p.m. Thursday. She bonded out later on a $1,000 cash bond, according to jail personnel.

Under Indiana Code, someone employed by a school corporation or in certain other positions of influence may be charged with child seduction if the victim is under 18 years of age.

The investigation continues.
