Logansport homes struck by gunfire

Two Logansport homes are believed to have been the intentional targets of two weekend shootings.

The Logansport Police Department responded to reports of gunshots fired in the early morning hours Saturday in the 600 block of 13th Street and late Sunday night in the 000 block of B Street. The department has “persons of interest” in the case, which First Detective Sgt. D.J. Sommers said has the possibility of being gang-related.

The residents were at home when the shots were fired, but no serious injuries were reported, according to Sommers.

One bullet traveled through the second-floor bedroom window of the 13th Street home and another went through the first-floor living room window, Sommers said. In the B street home, five shots total were fired at the living room area, according to Sommers.

Sommers said they do not know how far away the shooter was. But, he said, they believe the shooter or shooters were on foot.

“It appears that in both cases the subjects were on foot,” Sommers said.

So far, Sommers said they have begun the process of interviewing people of interest for both houses. They also have a vehicle which may be linked to one of the suspects in the Sunday night shooting, he said.

“We have persons of interest in both that we would like to speak to,” Sommers said.

He said the houses shot at, one a duplex and the other a single-family home, were specifically targeted, and not random shootings.

Sommers said the reason for the shootings has the “potential” to be gang-related and they’re continuing to investigate the case.

“There have been known gang members that frequent those addresses,” Sommers said.

The department is also “not ruling out” the idea that the shootings are related, Sommers said.

“They’re being looked into as a possible connection,” Sommers said.

He asked anyone with tips on the shooting to contact him at 574-753-8110.
