LHS swing choir to be at "Christmas at the Capitol"

Eight choirs will perform at inaugural event.

The 31 members of the Logansport High School swing choir were selected to perform for Governor Mike Pence and First Lady Karen Pence.

Tim Cahalan, the choir director, said he was pleased to find the LHS swing choir was selected to perform at the Indiana Statehouse.

“It does make us proud,” Cahalan said. “We work hard and there are a lot of nice rewards.”

The inaugural event, titled Christmas at the Capital, will take place Friday and Saturday.

About eight school and college students in the state will perform a holiday program, which will begin at 5 p.m. Friday and continue at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The LHS swing choir will perform around 5:15 p.m., Cahalan said. The performance will include six to seven songs with some choreography.

After performing at the Indiana Statehouse, the LHS swing choir will eat at the Spaghetti Factory restaurant, Cahalan said. “We’re able to fit in some fun after they perform.”

The inaugural program is being sponsored by the Friends of the Indiana State Archives, a nonprofit organization created to save Indiana history.

Cahalan said he is hoping the weather cooperates and that the group gets to Indianapolis and back to Logansport safely.

Groups performing at 5 p.m. Friday are the Union Chapel Bible College, Logansport High School Swing Choir, Hamilton Southeastern Royal Edition and Oak Trace Elementary Treble Choir. Groups to perform at 1 p.m. Saturday are Canterbury School Chamber Singers, Southridge High School Choir, Irvington Community School One Voice Choir and Bella Voice Indiana Children’s Choir.
