Drinkwine also proposed exploring whether local businesses would be willing to make tax-deductible contributions to make up the matched funds necessary for homeowners to pursue repairs.
Council President Joe Buck agreed neighborhood improvements are necessary.
“We definitely need it,” he said, “we have disasters waiting to fall in.”
However, he said he was hesitant to support the initiative until knowing what the maximum contribution from the city could be and how successful getting contributions from local businesses would be.
The council will vote on the measure at 5 p.m. Monday in the City Council Chambers on the third floor of the City Building, 601 E. Broadway.
