LOGANSPORT — Five people reported their windshields damaged or shot out in Logansport over the weekend.

Police received five reports — with three near High Street and two on Spear Street — of car windshields shattered, with many residents speculating they had been broken by a BB gun. First Detective Sgt. D.J. Sommers said the crimes are being considered criminal mischief because nothing was stolen from the vehicles.

Sommers said residents believed the incident had occurred Saturday night, but no one had witnessed or heard it.

He said nothing was taken from the cars and he doesn’t believe the cars were entered at all.

“I can’t even say that they were intentionally shot,” Sommers said.

Sommers said most of the car thefts in the area are a result of unlocked cars, rather than forced entry.

“Ninety-nine percent of the vehicle thefts we have in this town are individuals who’ve left their vehicles unlocked,” Sommers said.

He said he would be talking with neighborhood residents for the case.

The investigation is ongoing.
