Six months after hiring Shelly Butler, formerly executive director of a YMCA in St. Louis, the Cass County Family YMCA board of directors is seeking applicants for her position.
Butler, who began in October of 2012, resigned in March. Board members said they were unaware whether Butler had taken another position.
Steve Sims, treasurer of the board of directors, said Brian Morrill, who previously worked as the Cass County YMCA executive director, is volunteering as interim director.
A search committee recently formed to find a candidate for the executive director position.
Sims said, with the help of the national organization, they hope to hire someone by Aug. 1.
“We still have a lot of steps in the hiring process,” Sims said.
Sims said the position is open to national and local candidates.
“We certainly would consider a local candidate,” Sims said. “We have had both in the past and both work out fine.”
Applicants must have a four-year degree. A YMCA background is preferred.
“We want someone who is a strong leader and well-aligned with the YMCA mission,” Sims said.
Lisa Swaim, president of the board of directors, agreed, saying they want someone who has strong writing and verbal skills and can build and develop a strong staff team.
“The ideal candidate would have strong fiscal leadership, and lead in fundraising efforts,” Swaim said. “A person who can help enhance programming, develop strategic plans and help develop a diverse board.”
Those interested should submit information to Kevin Bush, YMCA USA liaison, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 312-480-9882.
Swaim said it is early in the process and interested people sending resumes should aim for the first week in May.
“As a career opportunity the Y offers an exciting, fast-paced environment with challenging position that provides a lot of personal satisfaction,” Swaim said. “You get to work with a lot of community partners, families and get to enrich the community and create a lot of positive feedback.”
