KOKOMO — Kokomo police arrested a man Monday who they say is connected to two robberies this year of Kokomo Heritage Federal Credit Union, 901 S. Courtland Ave., and is suspected in a 2012 bank robbery in Peru.
Christopher D. Hart, 41, Kokomo, was taken into custody on a Crime Stoppers tip around 2:50 p.m., after police went to a residence in the 4400 block of South 00 East/West.
Police said Hart robbed the credit union twice, once on Jan. 3 and again on April 1. During both incidents, the suspect was described as a white male, thin build, wearing a dark face covering. The suspect ran from the bank to the southeast on both occasions, witnesses said.
Before raiding the south side residence, Kokomo Police detectives conducted surveillance on the residence until a black Jeep arrived. Police said Hart got out of the Jeep, which coincided with the Crime Stoppers tip.
Hart is also a suspect in a Dec. 11, 2012, robbery at First Merchant Bank in Peru.
Peru police Capt. Jason Moodey said a number of circumstances linked Hart to the Peru robbery, including his appearance. He said a Class B felony robbery warrant has been issued for Hart in Miami County.
Hart initially faces two Class B felony robbery charges in Howard County, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.
This case remains active for investigation.
