Crash fatality identity released

Monticello man died in crash.

---- — MONTICELLO — The identity of a male pedestrian who died in a crash was released Wednesday afternoon.

Steve Joseph Gilbreth, 47, Monticello, died in a crash in White County early Saturday, according to a news release from the White County Sheriff’s Department.

At approximately 3:48 a.m. Saturday, the White County 911 Dispatch Center received a call reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on West Shafer Drive between 100 North and Norway Road.

Gilbreth was taken to Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation indicated a Dark blue 2006 Ford F150 pickup truck was travelling south on West Shafer Drive when it struck the pedestrian just south of Norway Road, according to the release.

The driver of the truck, Michael Gibbs Jr., 32, Monticello, and a passenger were uninjured.

The crash is continuing to be investigated by White County Sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Northcutt Jr., Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist Robert Good and White County Coroner Matt Westerhouse, the release states.
