Police: Loganport man reports himself as drunken driver

Man was ‘sick of Indiana’ so he decided to go for a drive

From Staff Reports

— Indiana State police received a 911 call Monday morning in which a Logansport man reported himself as a drunken driver.

At 12:20 a.m. Monday, the Jasper County Sheriff Department dispatched state trooper Danielle Elwood to northbound I-65 near the Demotte/Roselawn exit. There, police report, Elwood located a 1996 Toyota driven by Matthew Devore, 24, Logansport.

Elwood reports that Devore lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway into the grassy median, and was able to navigate back to the roadway when he realized he had a flat tire. He pulled the car over on the outer shoulder and decided to call 911 to report himself as a drunken driver, according to police.

Elwood reported that Devore said he “was sick of Indiana so he decided to go for a drive.”

She noticed his knuckles were bloody but he explained he had been playing darts earlier Sunday evening and decided to punch a wall.

Devore tested at .09 blood alcohol content and was taken to Jasper County Jail in Rensselaer.

He posted $1,005 cash bond Monday night and was released.
