---- — Logansport Community Schools is rolling out a new online registration portal starting Wednesday.

That day, parents may start registering their children for K-12 enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year via a link from the school corporation’s website, www.lcsc.k12.in.us.

“This year will be the first that we have online registration for both new students and returning students,” said Cyle Dibble, the corporation’s technology director. Parents of returning students won’t need to visit their students’ school as they have in the past, he said. Parents of new students, however, will need to pre-register their children online, then bring certain documents to the school itself.

“In our tech plan, one of our goals is to streamline information through Logansport Community School Corporation. Obviously every year, the registration process is a lot of information,” Dibble said.

In the past, parents have had to fill out a paper form during one of two days of registration in order to enroll their children. Much of the information remained unchanged from year to year, Dibble said, but it all had to be typed into the school’s databases anew each year.

This year, the online portal should allow parents to update the information the school already has on file, he said, and will bypass having to retype anything.

“It’s been a struggle for the schools to keep parent and guardian information up to date,” Dibble said. “We’re hoping by doing this we can make it easier for parents.”

Planning for transportation and food services should be streamlined as well, added Dibble. Registrations completed online will automatically update those departments’ databases, too, so they can more accurately estimate the number of students they’ll have to provide for come the first week of school.

Parents of returning students were sent letters last week containing the login information for each returning student. If a parent never received a letter or it was lost, Dibble said staff at the respective schools can provide login information starting Wednesday, too.

“If they didn’t receive that, they can call the school after the 24th to receive that,” he said. “However, they will be asked other questions to verify their identity.”

The registration website should be lean enough to load adequately via a dialup Internet connection, Dibble said. Families without Internet access at home may also register from any other computer with an Internet connection or by visiting the schools from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 30 or 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31 to use a computer there.

Returning students’ families may complete the entire registration process online. Families of new Logansport students will not be considered registered until they have completed the final steps in person at the schools July 30 or 31.

For returning students, a confirmation page will load once the online process is complete. That page will include a link to a PDF that the parent or guardian may download for their own records, Dibble said.

Every webpage of the registration portal also has a Spanish language version, he added, accessed by clicking the “Spanish” link on the top-right side of the page. Two Logansport staff members translated the site.
