Driver in fatal crash ID'd

Car and truck collided on Ind. 29 in Carroll County

BRINGHURST — The name of the Kokomo woman killed in a car crash Tuesday afternoon in southeastern Carroll County has been released after officials were able to notify her family.

Nancy Tyler, 59, Kokomo, died in surgery Tuesday at an Indianapolis hospital, according to the Carroll County Sheriff Department.

The crash occurred at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday on Ind. 29 north of Burlington. Tyler was driving a 2001 Saturn car south on Ind. 29 behind another southbound vehicle that was preparing to make a right turn onto 200 South. Tyler started to drive around the left side of the turning vehicle but then abruptly attempted to make a left turn onto 200 South, according to witnesses. As Tyler was making the left turn, a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by 28-year-old Kevin Redding of rural Flora also attempted to go around the left side of the car turning right.

Redding hit the Saturn on the driver's side. The impact of the crash forced both the Saturn and the Dodge pickup several feet into a yard at 2015 S. Ind. 29, Bringhurst, on the east side of the highway.

Tyler had to be extricated from her vehicle by Burlington fire and rescue personnel. She was flown by Samaritan Medical to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with life-threatening injuries. She died during surgery Tuesday at the hospital.

Redding was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo with unknown injuries. His condition is unknown.

A Chihuahua dog was riding in the Saturn and was shaken but not injured, according to the sheriff department. The dog was turned over to Howard County Animal Control for return to family members.

The sheriff department continues to investigate the crash.
