---- — Monticello firefighter uninjured in scuffle

A Wheatfield man was arrested after police say he had an altercation with a Monticello firefighter.

When police arrived about 6:30 a.m. Monday, firefighter Jacob O. Williams, 22, Monticello, was standing with Peter J. Figueroa, 39, Wheatfield, outside a Monticello Fire Department ambulance parked southbound on Ind. 43 just north of I-65. Williams told police Figueroa had requested to be transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, when for an unknown reason, he changed his mind and tried to exit the moving ambulance.

Williams said he tried to keep Figueroa from exiting the moving ambulance when Figueroa pushed Williams up against the inside of the ambulance, according to police reports. As the ambulance stopped, Figueroa exited out the rear of the ambulance.

Figueroa was arrested on a Class A misdemeanor charge of battery and transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Williams was not injured in the confrontation.
