---- — A car caught fire around 12:26 p.m. today when a driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed.

The driver, Lukus Hunt, 20, Delphi, fell asleep, causing him to go off the roadway, hit a guardrail and slam into the concrete bridge abutment. The impact flipped his Oldsmobile Bravada over onto its passenger side and then caught fire, according to a press release from Indiana State Police.

Hunt was northbound on I-65 in Lake County when the accident occurred, according to the preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Nathan Sherer.

Hunt's passenger, Thomas Storey, 22, West Lafayette, was able to get out of the vehicle, but Hunt was removed by passers-by at the scene. Hunt sustained broken bones and minor burns, while Storey complained of body pain. Both were taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point.

Northbound lanes of I-65 were closed for less than an hour.
