Scammers targeting area after officer's death

Callers have claimed to be from the "Police Protection Fund"

The Logansport Police Department has received information of a potential phone scam in the area.

The calls are coming from a 727 area code and the caller is purporting to be from the "Police Protection Fund," a press release from the Logansport Police Department said.

The caller is advising citizens they are collecting donations to help the families of officers killed in the line of duty, the release said.

"We believe that Indiana is now being targeted in the scam after the loss of Indianapolis Metro Officer Rod Bradway," the release read.

The release asks people not to give any personal information or bank/credit card information to the callers.

Anyone with questions or concerns can contact Detective First Sgt. DJ Sommers at 574-753-4101 ext. 210.
