---- — Ornaments, raffle items and more — maybe for gifts or holiday decorations — will abound at the 54th annual Holly Bazaar, sponsored by the Mary Dykeman Guild. The holiday spirit will continue during the two-day event and after, as the money raised goes toward Logansport Memorial Hospital patient care, including purchasing hospital equipment.
Wreaths, scarves, children’s gifts and everyday gifts like food, dips, candy and various other items will be sold, with a variety of themes.
In addition to bazaar items, there will be live music and a bake sale with premade soups and cookies. Money raised in the bake sell will also fund patient services.
The bazaar will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Medical Office Building East at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Along with tables of vendors, there will be raffles at the bazaar sponsored by local businesses and individuals. Raffle items include a nativity set, wooden snowman decor, a large red lantern and various other items. Tickets are $1 each, six tickets for $5 or 13 tickets for $10.
The Mary Dykeman Guild, which currently has 120 volunteers, was organized in 1959 to be a volunteer group that would help the hospital provide better services to its patients and the community. The guild has two main fundraisers, counting the bazaar. Volunteers work in various places in the hospital, including the Mary Dykeman gift shop.
Deb Musall is a Mary Dykeman Guild volunteer who works in the gift shop.
“I like getting to meet people,” Musallsaid.
Tamara Szarszewski, gift shop manager, said her work at the gift shop helping patients is re
“Helping patients is rewarding,” Szarszewski said. “Sometimes the gift shop is a needed distraction to those visiting the hospital.”
Diane Board, another Mary Dykeman Guild volunteer who works in the gift shop, agreed.
“It’s nice to get to help and give out gifts,” Board said.
Vicki Byrd said the Mary Dykeman Guild is non-profit and everything made by the volunteers goes back to the hospital.
