A different kind of art event will be available Friday night. Light Bulb, an urban art experience, will offer slam poetry, performance art, visual art, dance and various other art forms.
Melanie Kelley, Lita Rouser and Kado Downs are behind the idea to start the inaugural Light Bulb event.
The event will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Boondockers, 1 Eel River Ave. There will be a $5 cover, food and a cash bar. All money raised will go toward placing a bike rack in downtown Logansport.
Kelley said something as provocative as Light Bulb hasn't been done in Logansport. She describes it as a youthful, fun event.
"We want people to see something they're not used to seeing," Kelley said. "It's not going to be stuffy — it's going to be fun."
Some artists already signed up include Kelley, Downs, Jason McKeever, Greg Allen, Rich Vorhees, Rick Rouser, Betsy Bling, Ryan Miller, among others. The Berryettes will be doing a shadow dance behind a silk screen and members of Logansport Civic Players will be walking around in period costume, including medieval dress.
There will also be music merchandise and jewelry.
The event will not have an intimidating atmosphere, according to the organizers.
"We want people to feel included," Rouser said. "If someone is wondering if this event is for them, the answer is yes, it is."
There will also be an empty canvas and empty paper people can draw or write on if inspired during the event.
The goal is for people to be engaged and included with the art and artists.
"We want other people to be glad they went," Rouser said. "The talent here in Logansport is amazing — we have world-class artists."
The organizers are already thinking about what can be done next year.
"We are hoping the event continues to get bigger and better in years to come," Kelley said.
Anyone interested in showcasing art can still be worked into the event, Rouser said. There is no cost for any artist who wants to join the event. Those interested should call Rouser at 574-753-3533.
