France Park will focus on increased usage in 2014

Increased activities have brought more money and patrons to France Park.

It has been a busy year at France Park. There have been 10 new activities available this year. Next year, the focus will turn to bringing more people to the park.

Some of the new activities have included the addition of a zip line, free WiFi, and various events, said Lucas Beach, park superintendent. Beach told members of the Cass County Council Friday about some of the updates the park has seen.

Council members approved the appropriation of $34,000 to go toward the bathroom at the beach at France Park. Beach said he is hoping the remodeling will begin in the next month. The money was moved from the personnel fund, Beach said.

Although it is Beach’s first full year at the park, he said they have seen an increase in money as well as patrons at the park. The funds in 2012 were just shy of $200,000 and the projected outlook of this year is $250,000, Beach said.

The jump in money and patrons could be due to the mountain bike race, all-terrain vehicle and off-road motorcycle event, a new seven-to-seven mile bike trail and the upcoming zombie run and sleepy hollow hayrides.

The all-terrain vehicle and off-road motorcycle race attracted 3,000 people to France Park. Next year, Lucas Oil will be sponsoring the two-day event on July 19 and 20.

“This will influence the park and city of Logansport,” Beach said.

Because this year was focused on creating and implementing programs and the focus on the following year will be on campaigning to bring more people in, he said.

The installation of WiFi at the park for staff and campers will make them more efficient. Next year they are working to shoot WiFi to the beach area.

“If we’re going to keep pushing forward, we need to have the facilities to be able to keep up,” Beach said. “We need to go with the demand of nicer bigger facilities. As a park we need to be able to do that.”
