After several months of delay, Logansport Learning Academy is slated to open in May.
Interior remodeling is under way and is expected to wrap up within the next two weeks, David Tasch, owner of the educational day care, said.
Tasch, who owns another educational daycare center in Hobart, is hoping to see the facility open between May 1 and May 15.
“We had some starts and stops,” Tasch said. At first they were going to lease the building and then made the decision to buy it so they could “rehab the building from the ground to the ceiling.”
“Now we’re really rolling,” Tasch said.
Everything in the building, except the exterior walls has been remodeled. The building received a new roof, bathrooms were added and repositioned and a section of the parking lot will soon be torn out to add a playground area. Walls were gutted all the way to cement and then drywall was added. The ceiling, lights, flooring and carpeting will also be updated in the coming weeks.
Walls will soon be painted in primary colors so instead of telling students where to go by age groups, they will be told to go to the red, blue or yellow room, Tasch said.
To increase safety, the entrance will be changed to the side of the building and a security entrance will be added where visitors have to show identification and check in. There will also be security video monitors in every room.
“In my industry, I sell piece of mind,” Tasch said. “I sell someone the ability to go to work and know their child is safe. Safety is everything.”
The business, originally set to open in August 2013, will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and about 138 children, from six months to 12 years old will be able to attend. The daycare center’s structure will be modeled after a school system’s structure and there will be an allotted amount of time to do work and have recess.
