Trip suggestions for summer traveling

It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy, as George Gershwin once wrote. Thinking about taking a day trip with family or friends? Check out our list of ideas within a three-hour drive of Logansport.

Canoeing down Wildcat Creek

A new canoe and kayak outfitter opened recently in Kokomo — so now canoeing down the Wildcat Creek doesn’t require a trip to Lafayette.

Wabash and Erie Canal

Take a ride back in history at the Wabash and Erie Canal Park in Delphi. The park’s canal boat runs every weekend through the summer, and the interpretive center spotlights the creation of the largest manmade waterway in the U.S.

Cost: Museum admission is free; $7 for adult boat rides or $4 for youth

Washington Park zoo


Bring the kids along for a day at Washington Park Zoo and the nearby Washington Park beach in Michigan City. The zoo celebrates 85 years this year and exhibits more than 90 species from around the world — think Bengal tigers, alligators, Grizzly bears and even a kangaroo or two.

Where: 115 Lakeshore Drive in Michigan City

Cost: $6.50 for adults and $5.50 for children or seniors for the zoo; $7 parking for the beach

The Village at Winona

Spend a day shopping, dining and strolling past historic Winona Lake structures. The arts community listed on the National Register of Historic Places is home to several galleries and studios.
