A representative from Sears Holdings confirmed Monday that employees were notified Friday that the Logansport Sears store will be closing in three months.
The department store and auto center at the Logansport Mall will close in mid-May, Howard Riefs said in an emailed press release. The director of corporate public relations for Sears Holding said until then, the store will remain open and the store liquidation sale will begin Feb. 21.
The store is being closed because the lease was not renewed.
“Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust our asset base and accelerate the transformation of our business model," Riefs said. “These actions will better enable us to focus our investments on serving our customers and members through integrated retail – at the store, online and in the home."
The store closing in Logansport affects 43 employees.
Most employees are part time/hourly. Eligible associates will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.
Riefs declined to provide additional information.
