Crash results in pedestrian fatality

Release of victim's identity awaiting family notification.

---- — A crash in White County early Saturday resulted in the fatality of a male pedestrian, according to a news release from the White County Sheriff's Department.

At approximately 3:48 a.m. Saturday, the White County 911 Dispatch Center received a call reporting a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on West Shafer Drive between 100 N. and Norway Road.

White County Sheriff's Department deputies arrived on the scene along with Monticello Fire Department Paramedics and Monticello Police, the release goes on to state.

The male pedestrian was taken to Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The release states the pedestrian's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. As of Saturday afternoon, the White County Sheriff's Department was unable to release the pedestrian's name.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a Dark blue 2006 Ford F150 pickup truck was travelling south on West Shafer Drive when it struck the pedestrian just south of Norway Road, according to the release.

The driver of the truck, Michael Gibbs Jr., 32, Monticello, and a passenger were uninjured.

The crash is continuing to be investigated by White County Sheriff's Deputy Darrell Northcutt Jr., Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist Robert Good and White County Coroner Matt Westerhouse, the release states.
