Macy man charged with sexual misconduct

MACY — A Macy man accused has been jailed on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor.

On Monday, police arrested 35-year-old Scott W. Elchert of Macy for allegedly fondling the breasts of a girl.

Officers from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office began the investigation after receiving a complaint on Friday. After interviews with Elchert, the victim and her mother, the case was presented to Prosecutor Eric Huneryeager, who filed two separate class C felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor against Elchert.

The alleged crime occurred in November, police say.

On Monday, a Fulton County deputy detained Elchert at his place of employment in Rochester. He was taken to the Miami County Jail where he remained this morning on a $16,000 surety bond.

The charges carry a sentencing range of two to eight years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
