Logan school board seeks new member

Dibble resigns to take position with school corporation

A member of the Logansport Community School Board has resigned to take a position with the school district.

Cyle Dibble stepped down as a board member Monday to accept the position of technology director.

Superintendent Julie Lauck said Dibble was her first choice for the position.

“I had asked Cyle to fill this position when it was open a year ago,” Lauck said. “But unfortunately, he could not accept the position at that time. I am very excited to have him on board.”

Lauck said Dibble’s work ethic, integrity and his vision to make sure technology is there to service teachers and students made him an ideal candidate for the job.

Dibble will replace one of three vacancies created Oct. 28, when the corporation terminated the previous system administrator, technology operations manager and a computer technician. The three employees accounted for a third of the corporation’s technology staff.

There was no discussion of the previous employees during Monday’s board meeting.

“I can’t talk about personnel issues,” Lauck said after the meeting.

Lauck did deny a rumor that the technology staff had been let go based on charges of embezzlement.

Board members congratulated Dibble on his new position.

“He loves the task ahead of him,” board vice president Mike McCord said. “He really has a passion for letting technology be a support vehicle for our schools.”

Board president Lynne Ness said Dibble had taken an interest in school technology during his one and a half years on the board, helping to create courses at Century Career Center that allow students to obtain a technological certification through a four-year program.

Dibble will be a good fit for the job because he is student-focused and has learned about the corporation’s technology through his service on the board, Lauck said.

“He has knowledge of the position from the board perspective on things like the budget,” she said.

Ness said the corporation was now accepting letters of interest for a person to serve the remainder of Dibble’s term.

She said the board hoped to name a new member by the next regular board meeting Dec. 14.

If you are interested in filling the vacancy on the Logansport school board, submit a letter of interest and a resume to President, Board of School Trustees, Logansport Community School Corporation, 2829 George St., Logansport IN 46947.

Letters will be accepted until Friday, and interviews will be scheduled thereafter.

Candidates for the vacancy must live within Logansport city limits. The person who fills the seat will serve until June 30, 2012.

Candidates must be at least 21 with a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency. The person must also be qualified to vote in any school district election and be registered with the county election board within the school district. They must have been a resident of, and a registered voter in, the school district and the election district for at least one year before being appointed.

A person is disqualified from being a school board candidate if, among other things, the person has been convicted of a felony that has not been pardoned, reversed, vacated, set aside or not entered because the trial court did not accept the person’s guilty plea.

A person also cannot hold more than one lucrative office at a time, as outlined in Article 2, Section 9 of the state constitution.
