Violent sex offender captured in Cass County

Virginia man now awaiting extradition.

A violent sex offender who failed to register in Virginia is awaiting extradition after his arrest in Cass County last week.

Acting on a tip from the Virginian State Police, Sgt. Tom Wallace of the Cass County Sheriff’s Department arrested 42-year-old Joel Andrew Parry Thursday afternoon at his place of employment.

Wallace said he made contact with human resources at Tyson Foods, which confirmed Parry was at work. He was brought into a break area, where Wallace took him into custody without incident.

Parry is considered a sexually violent predator. According to the Virginia sex offender registry, he was convicted of four counts of forcible sodomy in 1988. Parry last registered in 2007, stating he lived and worked in Norfolk, Va.

In Cass County, he resided at 23W Private Road 75N and had been in the area since at least 2008, according to police.

Parry had also not registered as a sex offender in Indiana.

On Friday, Parry chose not to fight extradition to the state where he faces two felony counts of failure to register. He is expected to be transported within the next 30 days. Until then, he will remain in the Cass County Jail.
