Woman accused of stabbing boyfriend

A Logansport woman has been arrested on charges that she stabbed her boyfriend several times.

Logansport police arrested 30-year-old Melva Luna early Thursday on charges of domestic battery and aggravated battery.

According to officer Eric Binney’s report, officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Lindsey Drive in response to a fight. After initially denying that anyone else was in the residence, Luna stated her boyfriend, Albert Viera, was in the shower. Binney reported that Viera then walked to the front door where the officer and Luna were standing.

“I could immediately see a large stream of blood running down his chest on the left side,” Binney reported.

Luna told police she and Viera began to argue late Wednesday night after Viera was given a traffic citation and later went to Luna’s residence intoxicated.

According to the report, Luna said she began punching and scratching Viera with a knife in hand but Viera took the knife from her. Luna told police she then grabbed black tweezers and began stabbing her boyfriend.

Viera told police three children were present at the time of the fight, according to officer John Spear’s report. He said Luna used his folding pocket knife, with a four-inch blade, as well as the tweezers to stab him repeatedly. He reported that Luna had also grabbed a larger kitchen knife when police arrived on the scene.

Viera was taken to Logansport Memorial Hospital where he was treated for several wounds, including a puncture wound to his chest, several cuts to his hands, a half-inch cut to his left shin, several small punctures to his upper left arm and a cut on his left-side rib area.

He was later released from the hospital.

Luna remained in the Cass County Jail Thursday on a bond of $2,000 cash or $10,000 surety.
