Health department offering flu shots
The Cass County Health Department will offer the influenza vaccine to adults by appointment only on Monday and again on Friday, Oct. 3.
Flu shots are available for adults ages 19 years and older. The flu vaccine for this age group is $15. Payment may be made only by cash or check. The health department does not bill Medicare or insurance.
The health department is in Suite 230 at Logansport Medical Office Building West.

School to host blood drive
Vincent and Robin Huffman, Logansport, are holding a blood drive in honor and memory of their son, Griffin Scott Huffman, whose first birthday would have been this week.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Columbia Elementary School gymnasium.
As part of this celebration, Columbia Elementary students will be participating in the Pint Size Heroes Program. Activities will be available for the children.

Hospice holding fundraiser Oct. 10
Pulaski Memorial Hospice will be holding a “Tastefully Simple” fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 10 in the front lobby of Pulaski Memorial Hospital.  
Samples will be available for tasting. Tastefully Simple offers a wide variety of food products that are quick, easy to prepare. Products include soups, breads, spices, sauces, mixes for dips and spreads, beverages and desserts.

Proceeds will benefit Pulaski Memorial Hospice.

Prayer seminar held at area UMC
ROYAL CENTER — The Royal Center United Methodist Church is hosting a seminar on “Praying Effectively for the Lost” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2.
Lee Thomas, from Westlake, La., will be presenting material from his booklet on intercessory prayer.

American Legion will host benefit
The Eric C. Hamrick Memorial Benefit is planned at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the American Legion, 828 Burlington Ave. in Logansport.
Eric was a 23-year-old Logansport resident who passed away unexpectedly due to a rare blood disorder (autoimmune hemolytic anemia) on Aug. 2.
The benefit will assist his wife, Trista, with many medical bills as neither she nor Eric were offered medical insurance.
Any contributions will be accepted. At the benefit will be food, games, music, a silent auction, and raffle and door prizes.

Nonprofit preschool accepting students
Stillwater Academy, 500 Helm St., is accepting students ages 2 through 5 at their preschool.
Classes are from 8 to 11 a.m. and the cost is $15 per day.

Drop-off announced for items for soldiers
PERU — Eileen & Friends, 58 E. Main St., in Peru, is a receiving location for Operation Indiana Cares, offered by the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders, Inc.
Items collected for soldiers include tooth paste, tooth brushes, dental floss, hand and bath soap bars, wash cloths and towels, small sewing kits, games, foot powder, batteries and hard candy.

Bin gone temporarily from fairgrounds
The Cass County Solid Waste District has announced that the recycling bin located at the 4-H fairgrounds was removed on Friday.
The bin will return on Monday evening.
