Peru man accused of abusing children

81-year-old faces seven counts of child molesting

PERU — A month-long investigation resulted in the arrest of 81-year-old William J. Legg of Peru on seven counts of child molesting Thursday.

Indiana State Police launched the probe after receiving information from the Miami County Division of Child Services that an 11-year-old girl had possibly been molested. Legg stands accused of molesting the girl on several occasions from 2002 until August of this year. The investigation also uncovered allegations that he had molested a 7-year-old girl.

Armed with a warrant out of Miami Superior Court, Senior Trooper Joe Swisher and Miami County Sheriff’s Captain Dave Vitek arrested Legg at his home.

Legg was taken to the Miami County Jail, where he remains on a surety bond of $178,000. He faces seven counts of child molesting, three class A felonies and four class C felonies.
