A Logansport man arrested on a charge of child molesting appeared in court Wednesday.
At the initial hearing in Cass Superior Court II, Judge Rick Maughmer denied the appointment of a public defender for 51-year-old Jeffrey Max Brumett, who is facing a single class A felony count.
Logansport police arrested Brumett Tuesday after investigating allegations that he inappropriately touched a 4-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl at his West Miami Avenue home in June.
On Monday, Cass County Prosecutor Kevin Enyeart took testimony from Lt. Cathi Collins at a probable cause hearing. The judge determined there was enough evidence to issue an arrest warrant for Brumett.
Brumett is scheduled for a pre-trial conference at 9 a.m. Sept. 2. A jury trial is set for Oct. 29.
The charge carries a possible penalty of 20 to 50 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Brumett remained incarcerated in the Cass County Jail Wednesday on a bond of $10,000 cash/$50,000 surety.
