— Motorcycle chase leads to arrest
A high speed chase by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department led to the arrest of a Logansport man Monday evening.
Cass County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Gary Armstrong reportedly observed a motorcycle at 7:49 p.m. Monday driven by Christopher D.G. Symons, 23, Logansport, traveling at 78 mph in the area of 1050S and U.S. 35, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
In an attempt to stop Symons, who was traveling in speeds excess to 100 mph, Armstrong pulled his patrol car in front of the driver at 800S, according to the release.
When Symons attempted to drive the motorcycle around the car, Armstrong tried to pull him off the vehicle, causing him to drive into a ditch, according to the release. While trying to flee again, Symons lost control of the motorcycle. As a result, he suffered abrasions and was taken to Logansport Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Symons was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, unreasonable high speed, resisting law enforcement and numerous traffic violations. He also had active warrants from Howard County for pointing a firearm, strangulation and check deception.
Area boosters plan pork dinner
MACY — The Nyona South Mud Lake Boosters are having a roast pork dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Club House, 2999 N. Knoll Drive at Nyona Lake.
The dinner includes dessert and a beverage.
Proceeds will go to help finance lake projects.
Spirit Day sales set for Saturday
FRANCESVILLE — Francesville’s Spirit Day townwide garage sales are planned for Saturday.
There will be food, drinks and maps with locations and sale items available at the Francesville Fire Station.
Garden tour taking place in Rochester
ROCHESTER — The Fulton County Master Gardeners are hosting a garden tour from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity and other projects.
Rochester garden hosts are Donovan and Judy Peterson, 1210 Bittersweet Lane; Violet Seiwert, 1250 Bittersweet Lane; Prairie Edge Nature Park, West Third Street and U.S. 31; Dick and Helen Enyart, 2420 Country Club Drive; Randy and Nancy Trier, 1275S 500E; and George and Nancy Krom, 1136N 525E.
Tickets are available for $5 from Master Gardeners, at The Bloomin’ Corner at 424 E. Ninth St. or at each garden on the day of the tour. Those having their tickets punched at all six gardens will be eligible to win a $50 Bloomin’ Corner gift certificate.

Forms available for talent contest
The Cass County 4-H Fair Youth Talent Contest is planned at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Exhibition Building.
Entry forms must be postmarked by Friday.
Participants must check in at the Cloverleaf Complex 45 minutes before contest and must provide their own props.
There will be two divisions: junior division for ages 12 and under, and senior division for ages 13 to 21. Group acts must compete in division determined by the age of the oldest member.
Categories for both divisions include vocal solo, vocal group, novelty solo, novelty group, instrumental solo/group, dance solo and dance group.
Contestants must be residents of Cass County or a surrounding county without a talent contest and must enter only one category.
There is a $10 entry fee for a solo act and $25 entry fee for groups. Forms can be picked up at the Cass County Extension Office in the County Government Building, WSAL/Mix 102/Hoosier Country 103 and Mr. Happy Burger East and West.

Art fest provides fun for families
PERU — The River Walk Art Fest will feature a variety of artists’ displays and live entertainment from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the garden behind the depot and along the river walk. Admission is free.
The public will be able to purchase finished works from area artists, as well as watch the creative process in action as artists work on new pieces.
The Swampwater Stompers will provide entertainment with their Dixieland jazz style music in the Cole Porter Pavilion directly behind the depot, from 10 a.m. to noon. Limited seating will be provided, but spectators are also welcome to take chairs.
Children’s Theatre Workshop will be performing one-act plays in the depot at noon and again at 5 p.m. Jayne Kessler’s Readers’ Theatre group will do a performance about the multi-faceted art of quilting at 1:30 p.m. at the Cole Porter Pavilion.
Backdoor Bakery and Café du Cirque will sell refreshments. And Yater’s Farmers’ Market will be nearby at the corner of Canal and Miami streets.
There also will be a make-and-take art area for kids, so they can create their own works of art to take home.
