McTaggart hands out $90,000 in gifts
Five groups benefit from family’s charitable trust.
From Staff Reports
With its goal of making Logansport and Cass County a better place to live, the McTaggart Charitable Trust provided more than $90,000 to area organizations in June to make that goal come true.
Salin Bank and Trust, the trustee who is responsible for the distribution of funds, announced the recipients of those gifts this week.
McTaggart Charitable Trust provided just over $99,000 to the following organizations: Logansport Music Boosters; Logansport Backpack Program; Logansport Parks and Recreation Department; Logansport Junior Civic Theater; and the Cass County Historical Society.
The McTaggart family created the charitable trust exclusively for the purposes of the promotion and support of religious, charitable, scientific, literary and educational endeavors.
Special consideration is given to the beautification of the city and its parks, to meet the community’s health and spiritual needs, and to encourage the arts, education and recreation.
In 2008, more than $130,000 was given to the Cass County Family YMCA, Memorial Hospital Foundation, The Salvation Army, Logansport Children’s Choir, Ivy Tech Community College, and Junior Achievement.
Applications for grants from the trust are reviewed by a three-member advisory committee that determines the amounts to be distributed to qualified 501(c) (3) organizations or groups. The committee meets quarterly during the first week of March, June, September, and December.
Applications should be submitted approximately three weeks prior to the meeting date. Applications can be requested by calling Kate Borkowski at (800) 320-7536, extension 8059, or by sending an e-mail to c.borkowski@salin.com.
