Two airlifted after fiery crash

From Staff Reports

METEA — The driver and a passenger involved in a fiery wreck early Saturday were listed in fair condition this morning at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Paul Mainville, the driver, and Zack Dillard, passenger, were involved in a single-vehicle accident on Ind. 25, in which the vehicle had rolled over and caught fire, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Officer Kevin Pruiett was called to the scene at about 1:25 a.m. after a passing motorist reported seeing a vehicle go off the road near 875N. When Pruiett arrived, the vehicle was on its top in a drainage ditch. The engine was engulfed in flames. Due to smoke, Pruiett reportedly could not see if anyone was still inside the vehicle. He broke out the window to gain entry, but could not reach in because of the flames, according to the release.

Logansport Fire Department and Lucerne Fire Department put out the fire and confirmed that no one was inside the vehicle.

Both Mainville and Dillard were transported via helicopter to Parkview with multiple injuries. The news release did not state where the two occupants were located. An accident report was not available from the sheriff’s department this morning.
