Two newsroom staff members have been promoted to new positions.
Beau Wicker, who joined the newspaper in March, has been named sports editor, and Kevin Lilly , who joined the staff in 2005, has been named news editor.
In his new role, Wicker will oversee the newspaper’s daily sports section, coordinating coverage of seven area high schools along with youth sports and recreational activities.
“I’m excited to have Beau Wicker in this role,” said Kelly Hawes, the newspaper’s managing editor. “Beau knows this community. He grew up here, and he knows the local sports scene. He’ll do a great job as our sports editor.”
Lilly will help to oversee the local reporting effort, working with associate editor Carla Knapp to coordinate news coverage in Cass and surrounding counties. He will also work to improve news content on the newspaper’s Web site, pharostribune.com.
Lilly takes over a role previously held by Margo Marocco, who retired this year after a long career with the newspaper.
“Kevin has done a solid job for us as a reporter, and he’ll continue in that role,” Hawes said. “This new position will give him an opportunity to contribute to the newspaper in additional ways.”
Before joining the Pharos-Tribune, Wicker was the sports editor at the Monticello Herald Journal, where he worked for more than 4 1/2 years. Before that, he had worked as a correspondent for the Pharos-Tribune.
He graduated from Indiana University in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a certificate in journalism. He’s a 1998 graduate of Logansport High School, where he earned an academic honors diploma.
Lilly started out as the newspaper’s business writer, and he has also covered the police beat in addition to courts and local government.
Lilly was born in Madison County and graduated in 1996 from Frankton High School. He earned degrees in English and journalism from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
