Trail spring cleanup set for Saturday
BUNKER HILL — A spring cleanup workday has been scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Nickel Plate Trail. Volunteers will meet in Bunker Hill where Ind. 218 crosses the trail.
Waste Management has donated a dumpster and volunteers hope to pick up trash along the entire 13-mile trail. Volunteers should wear old shoes and protective clothing as there are some briars and brambles along the trail. Trash bags will be provided but five-gallon buckets come in handy for gathering trash. Push brooms may also come in handy.
A light lunch will be provided after the cleanup. For more information, e-mail runckrr@aol.com or call (765) 457-2607. For a map of this section of the trail, visit www.nickelplatetrail.org.
Properties issued clean-up action
The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety approved clean-up action at four city properties Wednesday.
The owners of 716 Race St., 1206 N. Third St., 29-31 Eel River Ave. and 2225 Smead St. were found to be in continued violation of the city’s trash code. None of the property owners attended the meeting.
Mayor Mike Fincher asked code enforcement officer Dee Hileman to visit the properties Wednesday evening to post a door hanger informing the resident of the consequences if the violations were not cleared.
If they fail to cooperate, the property owners will pay a $50 fine, $50 administration fee and $250 per-hour in clean-up costs.
“We have to let these people know that this is not acceptable,” Fincher said.
Sign up for youth baseball at YMCA
The Cass County YMCA will have sponsor a 4- to 8-year old Coach Pitch Baseball League, running May 5 through June 9.
Games will be played 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Riverside Park softball field.
Children need to bring their own glove, and T-shirts will be provided by the YMCA.
Registration ends April 30.
