Meth labs continue to be problem for Indiana

LAFAYETTE — The Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Unit took down more meth labs in 2007 than in 2006.

Last year, state police dismantled 820 meth labs compared to 766 in 2006.

Overall, those figures are down from just a few years ago. In 2005, there were 992 labs dismantled, and 1,115 in 2004.

State police reported 1,041 new meth-related cases and 623 arrests in 2007.

The Indiana State Police Post at Lafayette has a full-time meth suppression trooper dedicated to gathering intelligence about possible meth labs and dismantling found meth labs.

State police want to remind members of the public that they were instrumental in helping locate a great number of meth labs last year and their help will be needed again this year.

Anyone with information concerning illegal drug activity can contact the Indiana State Police at (800) 382-7537.
