Passport Fair set for post office Saturday

The Logansport Post Office will be hosting a Passport Fair from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications.

On June 1, U.S. citizens must present a passport book, passport card or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry.

Information on the cost and how to apply for a passport book and/or passport card can be found at www.usps.com/passport or www.travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens also may obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at (877) 487-2778.

Polsi’s honoring vets on Saturday

A veterans party, including a hog roast, is planned to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at Polsi’s Bar in Logansport.

This event will honor all veterans and local military personnel who are being deployed.

Monticello chamber sets ladies’ event

MONTICELLO — “Luck Be a Lady Tonight” is the theme for the second annual Ladies Night Out sponsored by the Greater Monticello Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau.

The event is scheduled on April 30 at Eddie’s Restaurant, Tippecanoe Country Club (TCC) beginning at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $30 and are available at the Greater Monticello Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, Christine’s Hallmark, the Herald Journal, Eddie’s Restaurant and WMRS Radio.

There will also be vendor tables for women to shop. Vendor cost is $55.

Event proceeds are earmarked for Chamber community projects.

Caston holding book fair in April

FULTON — Read-It-Again book fair sponsored by the Caston Elementary PTO is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. April 4 in the cafeteria during the Community Health Fair and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 6-8 in the south gym lobby.

Most of the gently used books, magazines, audio tapes, CDs, video tapes and DVDs will be priced to sell at 25 cents each. There will also be a limited selection of new items priced at $1 each.

The PTO is accepting donations at the elementary office. Items for children as well as adult materials (cookbooks, reference, how-to, craft ideas, gardening, novels, etc.) are welcome. Children will be attending the book fair, so all items donated need to be appropriate for school-age eyes.

Items may be dropped off during school hours the week of March 30.

Essay contest offered to sixth-graders

At the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting this week, Deputy Mayor Linda Klinck offered an opportunity to area sixth graders.

The Logansport mayor’s office, along with local public and non-public schools, received letters from the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns about the ninth annual, “If I Were a Mayor” essay contest. The purpose of the contest is to get sixth-graders to think about municipal government.

Students are asked to write a 250-word essay describing what they would do if they were in charge of their own city or town.

Eight regional winners and one statewide winner will be chosen and awarded prizes for their creativity and thought. They will be recognized at the Indiana Conference of Mayors on June 11 in Indianapolis.
