Area briefs March 19

Board bides time over smoking ban

The Cass County Board of Health has decided to wait until May to submit its recommendations for a county-wide smoking ban.

At Tuesday’s meeting, board members said they wanted to take their time to consider the terms of any ordinance before sending it to county commissioners for consideration.

After the January meeting, attorney Jeff Stanton confirmed he identified examples of other ordinances adopted in various towns and cities and would be prepared to thrash out terms of the Cass County resolution when the board is ready.

“When the time comes, there will be a number of different options available to us,” Stanton said.

The board is scheduled to meet again at 7 p.m. May 19 in conference room A/B at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
