Easter event set for April 4

The Logansport Parks and Recreation Department will be partnering with the Logansport Jaycees to bring “Morning with the Easter Bunny” to boys and girls ages 1 through 12.

The event will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. April 4 at Riverside Park.

Activities beginning at 9:30 a.m. include creating Easter card, free carousel rides from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and face painting for $1. Photos with the Easter Bunny will be available for $2, and parents are encouraged to bring their own camera.

The Easter egg hunt will begin at 10:50 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded immediately after the hunt.

Fire department planning concert

DENVER — The Denver Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring an afternoon of Gospel, bluegrass and old time country music from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Denver Community Building.

The Blue Grass Buddies and Friends will be performing.

Donations will be accepted, and proceeds will go toward the dedicated volunteer firefighters to pay for much needed equipment.

Juvenile facility marks graduation

Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility’s Purposeful Living Units Serve, also known as PLUS, recently graduated eight students.

Lisa Swaim of the Cass County prosecutor’s office delivered the keynote address. She advised the students of the pitfalls that could be waiting for them after release and how to avoid and overcome them.

The PLUS unit is a program that targets students in developing faith or character qualities before being released. The 16-week program builds upon the students’ own motivation and strengths and requires a minimum of 128 hours of group education per student and more than 250 hours of community service work.

Since the program is self-sustaining, the students hold fundraising events that go to purchase materials needed to facilitate groups and purchase and repair needed equipment.

Hunter education scheduled in April

An Indiana hunter education class will be held at the Izaak Walton League, 1046 N. Ind. 17.

The two-day course will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 4, and lunch will be provided by the Izaak Walton League. The class will begin at noon on April 5 and include “range day.” Students will receive one-on-one instruction with shotguns, rifles, muzzleloaders and archery. Students must attend both days.

Upon successful completion of this nationally recognized class, students will be certified, allowing them to buy an Indiana hunting license as well as licenses in all other states. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling Conservation Officer Brenda Louthain at (574) 664-9952.

The class is limited to 50 students on a first-call, first-served basis.

Band boosters ask for recipes

WALTON — Lewis Cass Band Boosters are putting together a collection of recipes for a cookbook fundraiser and are requesting recipes.

Recipes must be in by May 15.

Individuals can reserve a copy when submitting recipes. Delivery will be in the fall and the cost should be $8 to $9.

Lions serving fish, chicken

GRASS CREEK — The Grass Creek Lions will be sponsoring a Dan’s fish and chicken supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. March 28 at the Grass Creek Fire Station.

The cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under age 6 will eat for free.

Dessert will be included with the meal, and carry-out will be available.

Columbia plans family fun night

Columbia Elementary School will host a Family Fun Cooking Night for second- and third-grade families at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the school cafeteria.

The menu includes eggs in a baggy served with scrambled alphabet; strip of comic monster toast; banana magic juice slushy; and baked caramel apple with a side of delicious adjectives.

The event is free of charge, and door prizes, food and fun will be offered.

Winter choir event set at Lewis Cass

WALTON — The Lewis Cass Junior-Senior High School Choir Department will be presenting its winter choir concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school auditorium.

All high school and junior high choir students will be performing. The choirs will be singing selections from both their ISSMA Solo and Ensemble and ISSMA Organization Contest repertoire.

Admission for adults is $4 and $3 for students. Faculty and staff are admitted free of charge.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cass County is holding its annual Yankee Candle fundraiser through March 30. 

A wide variety of items may be found in the brochure ranging from candles and accessories to vegetable and flower bulbs.
